UK PADEL INDUSTRY INTELLIGENCE

77% of UK Padel Clubs Have Four Courts or Fewer

Why smaller clubs matter to the future of the sport

The rapid growth of padel in the United Kingdom is often associated with large, purpose-built venues and ambitious multi-court developments. But recently published industry figures tell a more nuanced story.

Figures shared by James Morgenstern of Padel Genie show that the four smallest club categories account for 77% of the clubs in his UK dataset, based on the percentages displayed in his research.

Of the 808 clubs represented, 138 have one court, 195 have two, 154 have three and 140 have four. Just 24 clubs operate ten or more courts.

A sport built on smaller clubs

The figures underline the importance of independent operators and local facilities. While larger developments may attract attention, smaller clubs are a substantial part of the sport’s existing infrastructure.

Attracting players is only the beginning

For clubs of every size, the challenge extends beyond filling courts for the first time. Regular participation, welcoming communities, coaching and meaningful player connections help turn initial interest into lasting involvement.

“Getting padel players into your club is the starter. Retention is the main course.”
