EVERY PADEL SHOT™ — The World’s Padel Clock: methodology

EVERY PADEL SHOT™ is the DO→PADEL™ estimate of the padel shots played worldwide since 25 September 2026 at 00:00 UTC, shown as a live figure on the DO→PADEL™ landing page. It is a model, not a count: no court, racket or ball is measured in real time. This page sets out what the model assumes, how the figure is calculated from those assumptions, how often it updates and where its limits are.

Known data and modelled data

EVERY PADEL SHOT™ keeps two kinds of information apart, and so does this page.

Known — published and directory data

• The estimated installed base of padel courts, calibrated against published national and global court totals (the sources are listed below).
• The DO→PADEL™ padel club directory, which lists real clubs by country, region and city. In version 1.0 the directory is not an input to the figure: it is shown alongside it, and it is where you go to find somewhere to play.

Estimated — modelled activity

• How much of each court’s day is spent in play, by local hour, day of the week and season.
• How many shots are played in an hour of padel.
• How the court base has grown since the baseline.

Every figure EVERY PADEL SHOT™ shows is therefore an estimate: the estimated shots played worldwide since 25 September 2026. It does not measure every shot played on Earth, and it never claims to.

The assumptions

• Court base. 78,450 padel courts worldwide at the model baseline of 31 December 2025, grouped into 32 playing regions, each with its own time zone, hemisphere or climate, and working week.
• Growth. The court base grows by 12% a year, applied continuously from the baseline. On 25 September 2026 that is about 85,270 courts.
• Players. Version 1.0 uses no separate player count. Players are represented by the court-hours they play; a padel match is normally four people on one court.
• Activity. Each region follows a weekday profile and a weekend profile of court use by local hour, a day-of-week factor, and a seasonal factor by local month. Gulf regions use the Friday–Saturday weekend. Across the whole court base, these profiles work out at about 5.5 hours of play per court on 25 September 2026.
• Shots per court-hour. 960 shots in an hour of play — about one shot every 3.75 seconds. It reflects rally length, shot cadence and the share of a booked hour in which the ball is live, blended across recreational and competitive padel.

The calculation

At any instant, the estimated rate of play worldwide is:

shots per second = (Σ over regions of courts × local activity × day factor × season factor × playing adjustment) × growth × 960 ÷ 3,600

The rate is worked out for each 30-minute step, sampled at the middle of the step, and held constant within it. The figure on the net is the sum of rate × time for every step from the epoch to now. So it always rises, and it never jumps or runs backwards. The model is deterministic: the same instant always gives the same figure, for every visitor and every server.

Reproducing a day

At daily level, the calculation reduces to three published numbers:

estimated shots in a day ≈ courts × hours of play per court × 960

For 25 September 2026, the model gives 85,266 courts × 5.49 hours × 960 ≈ 449.6 million estimated shots. That is an average of about 5,200 shots a second. The instantaneous rate moved between about 1,400 a second at 06:00 UTC, when the Americas were asleep and Asia–Pacific play was light, and about 11,000 a second at 18:00 UTC, during the European and Gulf evening. Hours of play per court change with the day of the week and the season, which is why the daily total is not the same every day.

What “since 25 September 2026” means

EVERY PADEL SHOT™ began counting at 00:00:00 UTC on 25 September 2026. The figure is cumulative from that moment. It does not reset at midnight in any time zone: one continuous global total is the same for everybody, wherever they are. Local time enters the model only through the activity profiles, so each region contributes most during its own playing hours and the rate follows the day around the world.

How often it updates

• The server computes the figure fresh for every request and writes it into the page itself, so the number exists without any script.
• In the browser, the figure counts forward from that value at the current rate, and re-reads the server figure every minute.
• The rate itself changes every 30 minutes, as each region moves through its day.
• A figure older than ten minutes — for example on a page opened offline — is cleared rather than shown as live.

Limitations

• It is a model. It is not telemetry, not an audited statistic and not an official count.
• Court totals are estimates from published reporting, and published totals differ from one source to another.
• Activity profiles are typical patterns, not what happened on a given court. Weather, holidays, tournaments and local events are not modelled.
• Shots per court-hour vary widely between beginners and professionals, and 960 is a blend.
• The per-region weightings and the hourly, weekly and seasonal curves are not published. The daily shortcut above reproduces the published daily totals, not every instantaneous value.

Version

Model and methodology version 1.0, dated 25 September 2026. The model is reviewed as new court and participation data are published. A change to any assumption moves the version and is recorded here.
